Pass The Equal, Sugar-- Pretty Please?

This blogpost is centered around an issue that is so dear to me, as I have many friends in the LGBT community, and I want nothing more than for all humans to have equal rights and love whomever they choose without discrimination. 

Friday night, the Forum for Equality along with my close friends and neighbors, Ty Hanes and
 Ken DelaVergne hosted an art show at Ty and Ken's artist studios and gallery, The Alamo. 

Ty and Kenny converted a complex of long-abandoned warehouses into a great example of 

adaptive re-use. One side is the artists studios and gallery, and on the other, Ty has a retail shop named RETROMODERN {more on that later}.  Upstairs is a loft that the two share, and unfortunately I ran out of time today so I wasn't able to photograph it. Trust me, its fab! 

What was so great about this event {besides the obvious: good food, free wine, I mean}...... was that the turnout was fantastic––all of the artists who graciously participated are supporters of the LGBT community.  Everyone had fun, the art was well selected and we all united for something we wholeheartedly believe in.

These are works by Stephanie Patton. The white leather channeled piece is absolutely incredible in person. And the I Love You, was so fun and irreverent, it made me laugh! I'd like to know more behind the pregnancy exercise pose signs, because they were so eye-catching and vivid in their bubblegum pink, I gravitated to them immediately. 

I also LOVED this huge piece by Jack Rivas. Unfortunately for me, it was not for sale! I'm a fan of mixed media and collage, so of course I just ate this up. 

A photograph from my friend Colin Miller. Colin's approach is one I admire due to the polarity in his work. He's highly stylized, pointed and his subjects tend to be very political in nature. Colin is also the Southern Field Director for the Forum for Equality and had a large part in curating the show.  Bravo, Colin!

Next door to The Alamo, is Retromodern, Ty's precious shop. Ty finds great pieces of mid-century furniture coupled with a few neo-classical accouterments, a lil' smattering of tribal, and anything in between. The prices are G R E AT. Lots of cute things to be had.  Plus, he'll brew a pot of coffee in the drop of a hat.....visiting with him ALWAYS puts me in a good mood! {Love you, Tybaby!}

I told Ty that the jury is still out on that statue! If there's anything about me, I'm honest--probably more than most people can handle, but I digress ;)

Please, love your loved ones, whether they are straight, gay or transgendered. Your love and support to them means so much and their impact on your life is tremendous, I can assure you. If you would like to get involved with activism in the SW La region, please contact Colin through the Forum For Equality website. What they need is support and numbers behind them, and then a truly equal America can be that much closer to being realized.

Copy And Paste Blogpost Thursdays! Yayy!!

Pin It {{I know, I'm so blog-lazy these days––It must be that oppressive heat I told you all about a few weeks ago }} So, in the spirit of my grande-laziness, let's devour these pretty photos together shall we?

**Okay, after not being to identify the source of the photos, I'll admit--I've had these pictures for years and did not properly archive them so I have a mish-mash collective of pretty pictures that I rediscovered today. I would, in any other circumstance, give credit where credit is due!

A study in subtlety in shades of cream. I think I squealed like a girl when I saw this! One of my all time favorites :) **I had it saved as Marian McEvoy, but cannot confirm if this is indeed her work. Whomever the designer, they did such a lovely job!

As much as it pains me to say this, I don't know who the designer of this is either, or even where I snagged it from!  But! I do  L O V E  the wall color and the very well done  gallery grouping, and the flame mahogany and the english regency chair. I mean, I just love this vignette –– I could go on and on!

Does Gerrie Bremermann EVER miss? I swear I have thought about replicating these urns about 1000x. I'm certain my crude interpretation would pale in comparison, but whaddaya think––I could at least give it a shot, eh?

Interior Decorator+Gifted Photographer=Simpatico!

So I'll just say it: Gwen has the gift. No, I'm not just talking about the gift basket that I made up for her because she's so dang fab n' sweet, I mean she has the GIFT of talent, a keen eye and the exuberance, passion and adaptability to explore her limitless creativity on countless levels. I admire her work and her approach, so much that I think I have found 'my photographer' you know, the one that every decorator is on the eternal quest for, and some come close, but not quite and some get it but not exactly. Gwen and I get each other. I love that. I see us having a long-standing relationship and I am so thrilled about the possibilities of what we can achieve together!

 I wanted to say thanks to her for a recent kind gesture, so I loaded up on all kinds of goodies and packed up a cute basket for her. She, being the craftser that she is, appreciated the thought behind it and sent me these great photos today. See? Simpatico! 

And here's why I should NOT do my own photography. I mean, isn't this just awful? I do not have the gift!! Ha! At all ;) Maybe Gwennie can help me with perspective a little ;)

These Lamps Flip My Switch

Today, a colleague of mine and I were talking shop, which of course lead me to visit to a few of my favorite resources just to see what's new. Being that lighting may very well be my favorite element of a successful room I {without hesitation} proceeded to squander 30 minutes perusing the selection and dreaming up rooms that I could use the finds in. You know, of course my dilly-dallying is a perfect excuse to create a blog-post to share with you a few lamps that I LOVE and constantly salivate over. 

Two companies that I often refer to and continually love more and more are Decorative Crafts (trade only) and Circa Lighting.  These two sources are the cats pajamas in my book and are so dedicated to only using the finest materials and designs which is so admirable these days. These are more than lamps, they are pieces of art––they stand alone and could easily be the piece de resistance in any room.

It excites me so much whenever I see a lighting designer take a modern approach to the bouillote . To me, there's nothing more graceful than the tole shade and the refined brass base...it's just wonderfully classic. And here, even being a touch modern, this particular lamp is sure to resist falling out of fashion anytime soon.

I want this one so terribly. I think its tastefully refined and has some lovely elements of classicism––which would look great just about anywhere.
